Wyoming County employees to see changes to some insurance plans

Kevin McconlogueWyoming County Press Examiner

Wyoming County employees are going to see a supplier change for some elements of their insurance plans.

At a meeting on Tuesday morning (Oct. 20), Wyoming County Commissioners voted to change suppliers for employee Life, Accidental Death, and Short & Long-Term Disability Insurance to a company called Companion Life Insurance Co., based in Columbia, South Carolina.

According to Commissioner Chairman Rick Wilbur, benefits and pricing are the same or better across the board with Companion Life and all the plans will now be handled by one company rather than multiple to streamline the processing of bills and employee charges.

Wilbur also said that county employees who currently have these types of insurances have been alerted of the change, or will be alerted of the change in the upcoming week.

In a fairly light agenda, commissioners also voted to put a bid out for temporary barricades for Bridge #5 on Buttermilk Road in Falls Twp. The barricades would be a temporary fix as the county hopes to make repairs or fully replace the bridge sometime in the future.

In other business, commissioners voted to extend several current agreements including: a service agreement with Maximus Services for the judicial system; the food purchase program grant agreement with the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture; a service contract with Larson Kellett & Associates; and a service purchase contract with the Scranton Counseling Center for Children & Youth Services.
